More Great News for MT4

I read today that [1] Arvind’s Live Preview plugin is to be incorporated into the upcoming MT4 release. This is great news. Now instead of the bland looking preview page, we’ll get to see one the accesses the style sheet to give a live view of the entry. I’ve been using Live Preview for a couple of years now (since it was released), and even helped Arvind through some of the development for one of the upgrade versions. Saying that makes me feel a little like I know a celebrity, but really, in the MT circle, Arvind is a celebrity. If only I had half his knowledge. Ahhh.

No matter, it will be great to learn how to do things all over again with this new release. I’m sure we all will want to know how to edit the templates, add tags, change things around to our liking. Designing pages is something I’m wondering about now. I guess it’s just a matter of adding a bit of HTML and CSS like you would for any web page design, but I haven’t had a close look yet, and there’s little documentation as for as the “how tos” go.

One bug that I’ve managed to fix so far is the activity feed error about failing to create the support folder. I have this particular one listed several times, and all you need to do is create a folder called support in the mt-static folder and give Movable Type write permissions. You also need to make sure that the path to mt-static is in the mt-config.cgi file if it is outside the MT folder (which mine is).

One thing I haven’t tried to do so far is upload an image, so for testing purposes, here’s a truly beautiful photo of China. Wouldn’t you just love to visit?
