MT Too Slow Loading Edit Screens

Yesterday I was nearly ready to look for another blogging platform because the time it was taking to log in to Movable Type, and then to get to the welcome screen was taking around 5 full minutes. I waited 3 minutes for the sign-in page to load and another minute and 45 seconds for the welcome screen to load.

Adding an image to the post using Better File Uploader was turning into a real nightmare, with the page seeming to hang while it loaded the BFU screen.

Eventually I tried turning off a couple of plugins: Better File Uploader and CleanSweep 1.1. It pained me to disable BFU since it's one of my favourite plugins, and the default file uploader just doesn't compare.

Today, however, MT is loading much quicker, only taking 1 minute to load the sign-in page and much quicker when I move around in MT.

Something else I turned off, and I think it made a big difference in page loads generally was the AVG Safe Search and Security Toolbar. It's new in version 8 but slows browsing significantly.
