Zemanta for Movable Type

[1] Zemanta has developed a [2] plugin for Movable Type 4.1 based on the browser extension that I had previously installed. The downside to having a browser extension soon became obvious when I tried to blog from a different computer and no longer had the Zemanta features in MT. Also, Zemanta wouldn't display if Rich Text was selected as the formatting preference.

The plugin has solved those problems and is easy to install. The instructions are a big light on, and the plugin took forever to work until I gave the json-proxy.cgi execute permissions, i.e. chmod 755. If you have the Zemanta browser extension installed, then turn it off when writing posts on blogs which have the Zemanta plugin installed; otherwise they will clash.

You can [3] re-blog any article that has a 'reblog' button posted underneath, which is another nifty inclusion with the plugin. Great for on-the-fly posts.

Reblogging is a great new way of blogging online - read something interesting, select a quote from it, add some of your thoughts to make context and post to your blog.

Zemanta works by giving you recommendations while you write. You will notice a new Zemanta sidebar added to your post editing page. After you start writing, the recommendations will refresh every 300 characters, and should improve as you write more.
